Jaipur Smart City
Jaipur, India
Jaipur featured among the first 100 Smart Cities of the Govt. of India. A critical part of the project was the Area-based Development (ABD) for the major chunk of the Walled City, especially its wonderful core heritage precinct including Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Shri Govind Dev Ji Temple among other landmark structures and space.
The key involvement was to steer unique heritage and tourism-driven inner city renewal and infrastructural projects, in which historic character, new urban aspirations, regenerative activities and public place-making conjoined together. Diverse projects were conceptualized and detailed out: Development of Shri Krishna Smart Circuit, Revitalization of Talkatora Lake, Night Market, Documentation and Revitalization of 40+ Historic Water Structures, Rejuvenation of Jaleb Chowk, Facade Improvement of Bazaars, Conservation and Adaptive Reuse of Rajasthan School of Arts as a Museum, to name a few.
During the run-up to the UNESCO World Heritage City status for Jaipur, many of these projects were presented to and reviewed by international and national experts as well as teams from Govt. of India and Govt. of Rajasthan. Myriads of issues and constraints were encountered related to ownerships, desires of different stakeholder-groups and tight urban settings in planning, designing and implementation stages.
