Anandam Old Age Home

The Old Age Home project is a CSR initiative of the D S Group. The landscape design methodology took into account the needs of the elderly, implications for design and finally design solutions that address the physical challenges faced by the senior citizens. The Proposal, thus, gives special considerations to creating an outdoor environment conducive to socializing, convenient access to community facilities and easy mobility.

Outdoor spaces were planned for diverse activities like community gathering/ parties, open-air gym, participatory gardening, outdoor reading, and play areas that include mini putting greens, table-tennis and badminton. The central amenities block also includes a swimming pool and Jacuzzi.

Provisions were given for the following:

• Closed loops of walking tracks, choice of route lengths providing an effective mobility network in the complex.

• Ramps with reduced gradients for people using wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility aids.

• Tactile paving for the visually impaired.

• Intermediate Seating Areas to reduce impact of distance and grades; careful siting of furniture and features in landscaped/ green areas.

• Climate-friendly outdoor areas with judicious use of paving and generous planting.

• Environment-friendly aspects like permeable paving, for water percolation; and planting of native species to increase biodiversity.
